The Pharisees demanded a sign from heaven.

Where were they when Jesus fed the huge crowd in the desert? Crowds had followed Jesus wherever he went. They were hungry for his word and he nourished them.

But the Pharisees wanted Jesus to put on a show – to do something spectacular. The good works he had done, the healing, the embracing and welcoming of everyone who came to him with an open heart and mind – none of this touched or moved the Pharisees.

Imagine how Jesus must have felt. In that profound sigh you can feel his sense of disappointment and failure. May I be open to your word Jesus, to your call to love and care for those in my life and for those in most need in our world.
