The Almighty has done great things for me

This special Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is beloved by many. And our readings are full of hope. They describe a woman ‘crying aloud in the pangs of childbirth’”, a queen preparing to meet a king, and Mary herself greeting Elizabeth. Through experiences of fear and suffering, we journey with Mary to a place of joy and exaltation. She has known our pain, and she precedes us in glory. We join with her in acclaiming God for doing great things. We rejoice in the birth of our saviour and the fulfilment of God’s promises. And we discover God’s plan wherever the mighty are brought low and the hungry are filled. What is coming to birth in your life at the moment? Who are you preparing to meet? And what causes you to praise God?
