Isaiah 65:17-21. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me – Ps 29(30):2, 4-6, 11-13. John 4:43-54.
Trust in God’s Word
The man believed the Word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way. His son was sick and near death, so as a father he went looking for Jesus and begged him to heal his son. Jesus tells him to go, that his son will live. And he goes. Would we have similarly left, without seeking further assurances? Particularly if it related to the serious illness of a loved one? While I’d like to think that I would trust Jesus’ word in that situation, I know myself well enough to doubt whether that would in fact be the case. What is it that holds us back from trusting and acting on Jesus’ word to us? May we be able to name our doubt or fear, and hand it over to Jesus, trusting that he only ever wants our good.
