Love and fear
At the end of last year (19 December 2024) Australian cartoonist, poet and artist Michael Leunig died. In one of his famous poems, Leunig wrote that there are only two feelings, two languages, two activities: love and fear. These two emotions provide our motives, procedures, frameworks for living and, ultimately, results. The poem couldn’t sum up today’s first reading any better. The love of the Lord – to us and from us – drives out fear and motivates us in our mission to tell the Good News. ‘Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to protect you – it is the Lord who speaks.’
