About Today Readings

Genesis 4:1-15, 25. Psalm 49(50):1-8, 16-17, 20-21. Mark 8:11-13.

Offer to God a sacrifice of praise – Psalm 49(50):1-8, 16-17, 20-21.

‘The Pharisees asked him for a sign from heaven.’

Where were they when Jesus fed the huge crowd in the desert? Crowds had followed Jesus wherever he went. They were hungry for his word and he nourished them.
But the Pharisees wanted Jesus to put on a show – to do something spectacular. The good works he had done, the healing, the embracing and welcoming of everyone who came to him with an open heart and mind – none of this touched or moved the Pharisees. Imagine how Jesus must have felt. In his profound sigh you can sense his disappointment. May I be open to your word Jesus, to your call to love and care for those in my life and for those in most need in our world.
