About Today Readings

St John I

Acts 19:1-8. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth – Ps 67(68):2-7. John 16:29-33.

Embrace the gifts of the spirit

Jesus tells his followers that he has conquered the world. Perhaps his greatest triumph was the transformation of the disciples after his death as they boldly proclaimed his radical life-changing message to others. Paul’s story is one such life-changing story. After his conversion, Paul became a spirit-filled person who ‘argued persuasively about the kingdom of God’.

Jesus warns his disciples that they will face persecution. This is as true now as it was in the time of the early church. Dare I let the Spirit transform my life so that I can transform the world? Am I prepared to face challenges – even persecution – to bring about God’s kingdom here on earth?
