Jesus listens to our deepest needs

Here’s a little challenge for today. Find a place to sit in public. It could be a park or a bus stop or a café or inside a shopping centre. Close your eyes and listen to all the sounds around you, especially of people. Now, in your mind, call out, ‘Jesus have pity on me’. Slowly. Over and over. This is what the blind man on the road to Jericho did, except he raised his voice so loud that people told him to be quiet. He did exactly what we all need to do but are afraid to. We need to ask God to reach into our darkness, to be the friend and companion we most long to sit beside. Jesus is the only person in the story prepared to listen to the man. He is the one who can listen to our deepest needs.
