Seasons of life
Today is the day on which plenty of people in Australia resume work for the year. Many of us will feel a bit rusty. It takes a while to get back into the routine, especially if we have been sleeping in and spending time with friends. Today’s Gospel might be a help. A few narrow-minded people complain that Jesus is having a good time and enjoying life. As always, Jesus won’t be bullied. He points out that there are seasons in every life, and this includes our own. We know that the bridegroom is still with us. Jesus invites us to accept the gracious gift of life with open arms and to make the most of it. Whether we are at work or on a break, there will be light in every single day. It might be as simple as a fresh tomato. St Ignatius used the word ‘relish’. Our faith invites us to enjoy the flavour of this very day.
