The Presentation of the Lord
Malachi 3:1-4/Hebrews 2:14-18. Who is the king of glory? It is the Lord! – Ps 23(24):7-10. Luke 2:22-40.
He came to the Temple . . . she never left the Temple
In this story, Mary and Joseph present the baby Jesus at the Temple and witness the praise and prophecy of Simeon and Anna. Both were devout religious people, yet Simeon came to the Temple while Anna never left it. There can be a sort of relief when we realise that there is no one way to be holy and good. We all have different vocations, and different ways of living out our love of God. Some live quietly praying at home, some are activists or missionaries, some keep close to shrines or churches. God can use each one of us for God’s own purposes, to recognise and proclaim the divine presence in this world. With Simeon and Anna, let us today witness to Jesus, praise and prophesy in our own spheres and in our own ways.
