Ss Marcellinus and Peter
Acts 19:1-8. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth – Ps 67(68):2-7. John 16:29-33.
Yet I am not alone
When have you felt alone? Perhaps you have been all by yourself in a house. Perhaps in a group you have been the only one of faith or a certain opinion? Perhaps you have seen family or loved ones die and leave you bereft. Jesus understands this. He can already see the moment when his closest followers will run away from him. Yet even in his own coming trauma, he tries to comfort us. When we feel alone, God is always with us. Jesus offers his peace and presence to help us get through. We may need to be brave but let us remember that Jesus’ saving act has already proved victorious. And, as the First Reading reminds us, God is also powerfully present in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gives us courage in God’s mission – even in the times we seem alone.
