About Today Readings

Daniel 9:4-10. Lord, do not deal with us as our sins deserve – Ps 78(79):8-9, 11, 13. Luke 6:36-38.

Let me not fall into pride

‘Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful. Lord, help me to love as you love. Remind me not to judge others, so that I can experience your mercy.’

There is an idiom, ‘eating humble pie’. I am often forced to ingest a slice when I judge my neighbour. Lacking awareness, I think I have a right to judge them for some petty mishap because I would never do such a thing; that is, until I find myself doing that very thing. After many years of struggling with this bad habit, I worry when I get judgmental of others, since I know the Lord may have me walk through the same flaws I judged. Then, he serves me a large slice of humble pie, which isn’t easy to swallow.

Lord, today, may I remember to excuse my neighbour for their perceived faults. May I practise humility, so that I will not fall into pride.
