About Today Readings

Everything is possible for one who has faith

Trust in Divine Providence seems old fashioned in a world of profit and loss and financial security. Faith that God will provide doesn’t mean you don’t work hard to build up support.

It seems impossible and improbable that a community house for people with mental illness could start with nothing but an insecure, dilapidated rental house and continue its work 32 years later. On one occasion, it had $200 in the bank. It has never been funded. It relies on residents’ contributions and the donations of friends and supporters. Each Christmas, it organises and provides gift parcels and hampers for 1200 or more people with disabilities, mental illness and addictions. In the past 32 years, Gethsemane Community has provided a home and assistance to develop living skills to over 60 people. Still small, quite unknown and facing an uncertain future, Gethsemane continues to trust in Providence.
