St Mary Magdalene
Song of Songs 3:1-4 / 2 Corinthians 5:14-17. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord, my God – Psalm 62(63):2-6, 8-9. John 20:1-2, 11-18.
Be bold to speak the truth of God’s love
Mary of Magdalene, you are known as the apostle to the apostles. Jesus showed himself to you after his death, before all the other disciples. As a woman, you loved Jesus tenderly. Perhaps it was you who anointed Jesus’ feet with oil and wiped them with your hair. You grieved deeply at the tomb of Jesus. Do I show my feelings for my loved ones? Do I dare to be extravagant and dramatic? Jesus was certainly extravagant demonstrating his love for us on the Cross. Mary, when I hear Jesus call my name, may I know it is truly him. Like you, may I be bold to speak the truth of God’s love even to sceptics.
