Ezra 1:1-6. The Lord has done marvels for us – Ps 125(126). Luke 8:16-18.
Jesus chose me
In our reading from Luke, Jesus promises a terrible transparency. Nothing will be hidden in the end. All our works and omissions, good and evil, will be seen in the light of day. For a sinner like me, this is a scary prospect. My only comfort is that the one who will sit as judge already knows all my sins and has already chosen me. I often reflect on Jesus’ experience in the Garden of Gethsemane. According to our Christology, in this moment Jesus knew all the evils of humanity. He saw all our ugliness, all our pointless hate, our cruelty. He saw all my hypocrisy, weak will, stinginess in charity, self-satisfaction and indulgence in comfort. Despite this, he chose us, loving each of us, even me, with his Divine will and human heart. His unfathomable love makes the light that will reveal us as we are bearable.
