St Bartholomew
Apocalypse 21:9-14. Your friends tell the glory of your kingship, Lord – Ps 144(145):10-13, 17-18. John 1:45-51.
Lord, help us keep our hearts open
‘He is Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.’
‘From Nazareth? Can anything good come from that place?’
Lord, this gives you some personal context. We are reminded that you were the carpenter’s son, and some people had an unfavourable view about where you came from. Perhaps you were sometimes pushing uphill a bit in getting started?
Holy Spirit, how quickly do we judge? Like Nathanael, very quickly in some cases, I imagine. Help us please to keep our hearts open and ourselves prepared to move on from first impressions.
