About Today Readings

Recall moments you have recognised Jesus

Men jockeying for position; mother’s wanting the best for their sons. The Gospel scene is not one difficult to imagine as we pray. Jesus’ response sounds ‘deadpan’. He doesn’t get indignant. Rather coolly he tells them they don’t know what they are asking for. The kinds of categories we are too often use as we navigate the world are irrelevant to the kingdom Jesus proclaims. The question that counts is ‘Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?’

Can you? It’s a challenging question. Can I let go of my false ego, the unhealthy part of myself, and be open to others? Am I willing not to be served but to serve? If we respond positively, we can be assured of Jesus as our model and companion. In prayer, perhaps call to mind moments you have recognised Jesus in service you have received and given
