About Today Readings

Romans 8:12-17. Our Lord is the God of Salvation – Psalm 67(68):2, 4, 6-7, 20-21. Luke 13:10-17.

The children of God

We should delight in being called Children of God, as Paul does in his letter to the Romans. We should also seek to be adult children, for that is surely what God wants for us. In this way we hold together an absolute fidelity to God whilst taking seriously our own experience, including our capacity to be inquisitive and reasonable.

That is surely Jesus’ invitation when he heals and so sets free those who have been bounded. As Jesus sets free this woman from the bondage of 18 years crippled by an evil spirit, he opens out the possibility of praising God in new and particular ways because of all the creative goodness she shall engage and experience. Fully human, fully alive, living in the light of God’s love.
