The woman was bent over

‘Yesterday, I was a little overwhelmed by all of the old mamas who came to me, having not seen me in a week. Today, one of them came back to me, bearing a gift of two small eggs. She is a beautiful woman who, due to an ancient illness, lives in the constant state of being bent at the waist, her body always at a 90-degree angle. She walks that way, assisted by a branch.

We sat and chatted, and then she heard music that we had playing in the office. She stood, and began to sway and dance, taking my hands and singing, her eyes closed and clearly joyful. I stood and danced with her, my heart feeling like a separate entity from me, it was so full. We danced and laughed and hugged. God, in the midst of hell, is so, so good. She reminded me of that today.’ (Letter from a refugee camp)
