About Today Readings

St Louis Grignion de Montfort

Acts 11:1-18. My soul is thirsting for the living God – Ps 41(42):2-3; 42(43):3-4. John 10:11-18.

God’s message is open to all

Humans have a habit of being protective of their own dignity, prerogatives, habits and possessions. Do you sit in the same spot at Mass? What about at your favourite café? Do you get annoyed when there are too many people? Yes, yes, and yes. I admit to being a creature of habit and often irritable when things don’t go quite to my plan – never mind that I may have not shared that plan with others. So, I understand the concerns of Jerusalem’s inhabitants that Peter is sharing the Word of God with those who are different to them. They thought the Word was special to them alone.

Yes, the Word is special to them alone, but it is also special to all the others that have the ability to hear it. That is a wonderful gift to all humankind.
