Lord, help us welcome your kingdom
Today’s Gospel looks at a couple of the ‘Kingdom’ parables. The mustard seed is tiny but somehow grows into a large tree. The leaven works mysteriously, hidden in the bread to make the whole loaf grow.
God’s kingdom is alive in our world. He works through tiny, unassuming means to grow exponentially. This work is mysterious and beyond what we can fully comprehend. But we are invited to be part of the kingdom.
The kingdom of God is a wonderful thing. But it’s not always comfortable. In the other Readings we hear of the golden calf. How often do we try to reduce God into something we can understand and control? Or distract ourselves from the blinding incomprehensibility with something bland and digestible? Lord, help us to welcome your kingdom without distraction and with open arms.
