Ss Simon and Jude
Ephesians 2:19-22. Their message goes out through all the earth – Psalm 18(19):2-5. Luke 6:12-19.
Let us open our doors in welcome and fellowship
Saints Simon and Jude are not mentioned elsewhere in the Gospel, but a legend says that they were martyred in Persia. The detail is probably not important because the message is clear. Jesus chose people to go out to the world, to be apostles, to spread the message of life throughout the world. This task is not new, as we are told in Psalm 18. There is nothing that can stop the message going out because it is driven by the Holy Spirit. Currently our Church is shrinking. Do we do the safe thing and lock the doors against different approaches to the Gospel or do we wholeheartedly open our doors to all those who would like to hear the message of peace? People came from everywhere, long distances, to hear Jesus and be cured. Do we courageously welcome in the poor and sick or do we turn them away if they do not pray like us?
