Celebrate the greatness of God

Today is the feast day of Saint Catherine of Siena, a Doctor of the Church and famed for her wisdom. In her time, the Church was divided, with two Popes, one in Rome and one in Avignon. Saint Catherine called on the Pope in Rome to bring unity and order into what seemed a hopelessly difficult situation. A humble and gentle person, she nevertheless undertook the challenge to speak truth and wisdom to the great of this world and her courage bore fruit. The Scriptures today celebrate the greatness of God. Jesus promises his disciples that the Advocate, the Holy Spirit of Truth, will be sent to them. Father, Son and Spirit will teach them everything, and remind them of all he has said to them. Jesus reassures his friends: ‘Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them.’
