To have seen me is to have seen the father

‘If you ask anything in my name, I will do it’. How often is this line misunderstood? People pray for something and when it doesn’t happen, say, ‘God is a liar, he doesn’t answer my prayers!’ But we need to think about the rest of today’s Gospel, which says that to know Jesus is to know God. It points us to  Jesus’ life and what he stood for. If we are asking for something that does not reflect Jesus’ life, are we really praying in his name? Sometimes God answers our prayers in a way we did not expect. Our God knows us better than we know ourselves. God might then reply to us, ‘I understand that you really want this, but my answer to you will be to give you strength’. At these times, often come to understand God’s answer only later.
