True freedom requires God’s grace

What does freedom mean to you? We can be free of many things: oppressive people, oppressive regimes, responsibilities, anxieties. We can also be free for many things: holidays, family time, volunteering, prayer. In this situation, Jesus once again shows that he came to bring us freedom. He healed the man with the demon, leading him from a state of captivity to a state of freedom. But the man also participated in this transition, as did the sacrificial pigs. Finding true freedom is not always easy, and we need God’s grace. It may not be freedom from all of life’s sufferings, but it may be freedom for something precious and lasting. Let us be open to receive Jesus’ healing and freeing power today.
