The kingdom of God requires sacrifices
The Gospel is a radical call to present-day followers of Jesus. There are sacrifices required when serving the kingdom of God on earth. To be a disciple is not merely to give lip service but to wholeheartedly do God’s work of justice – wherever it might call us.
It involves willingness to accept an unclear pathway, which might mean renunciation of one’s family and home. In rural and regional Australia, the lack of diocesan priests has resulted in overseas clergy moving to Australian communities. Many seminarians and priests who migrate to Australia are asked to leave behind their family, friends and homes, to serve in deprived parishes where the sacraments are lacking.
We should admire their determination to understand a new culture and minister to an unfamiliar people. Let us pray that we can serve Christ’s people in unknown plains, for the building of the community of God.
