St Jerome
Job 1:6-22. Lord, bend your ear and hear my prayer – Psalm 16(17):1-3, 6-7. Luke 9:46-50.
Lord you are always with me
‘Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I go back there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!’ (Job: 1:21)
The reading from the book of Job reminds us that our love and loyalty for God does not depend on the outward conditions of our life. Job teaches that all comes from God, so when misfortune comes our way, we believe that it is to be used for our good. May our faith remain strong no matter the trials we face.
Lord Jesus, remind me to be grateful to you no matter the direction the winds of my life blow. Whether seemingly good or bad, lucky or unlucky, happy or sad, help me know you are always with me.
