About Today Readings

St Casimir

2 Kings 5:1-15. My soul is thirsting for the living God: when shall I see him face to face? – Psalm 41(42):2-3, 42:3-4. Luke 4:24-30

We pray for the grace to hear wisdom

What does it take for us to change our worldview? Most of us are pretty set in our ideas about how the world works. It’s rare that we’ll listen to someone speak and change our minds at what they have to say.

The readings for today illustrate this point when it comes to faith in God. Jesus knows the people in the synagogue in Nazareth are unlikely to change their minds at his words – they hold too strongly to what they know, and they don’t see any reason to listen to someone who has lived among them. Meanwhile, in the first reading, Naaman does eventually hear the wisdom of the prophets – but only after much resistance is overcome.

We pray today for the grace to hear wisdom when it speaks to us, and to let ourselves grow in our relationship with God as a result.
