About Today Readings

St Agatha

1 Kings 8:1–7, 9–13. Lord, go up to the place of your rest! – Psalm 131(132):6–10. Mark 6:53–56.

God is with us in our daily lives

Today’s first reading conveys the extraordinary moment in Israel’s story when the ark of the covenant, the touchstone of Israel’s relationship with the Lord, is placed in the Temple. Solomon reverently proclaims that he has built a place for God to dwell forever. In the Gospel we read of Jesus moving through villages, cities and farms. We could not quite live fully the relationship God wished for, and so God has come to be with us even more intimately.
