About Today Readings

Acts 2:14, 22-33. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope – Ps 15(16):1-2, 5, 7-11. Matthew 28:8-15.

We pray for peace

In today’s Gospel reading, you can perhaps sense some of the danger that Jesus’ followers faced. The chief priests seek to blame them for taking the body of Jesus, and they are told to head away from Jerusalem, to Galilee. We know that many will be killed as they spread the word of Christ’s coming and Resurrection.

That danger remains today. While Easter is a time of celebration, it can sadly also be a time of peril in Christian communities. We remember in particular Christians who have died or faced hostility for their faith – including the violent attacks in Sri Lanka in 2019, as well as recent Easter violence in places such as Nigeria, India and the Holy Land. We pray for peace in those and other communities.
