The Lord is king, the most high over all the earth—Psalm 96(97):1-2, 5-6, 9.

‘I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man.’

In today’s Gospel, the Father is telling us, through Peter, James and John, that the Son of Man has come. What more do we need to be told of Jesus, of the Father’s affirmation of him, and of the intimate love of the Father?

On the mountain, the disciples see the glory of Jesus with Moses and Elijah. Soon they are plunged into a cloud through which they hear the voice of the Father. The voice reminds them who Jesus is, and leaves them with the instruction ‘Listen to him’. As they come off the mountain, they would do well to heed this advice.
