Who is my neighbour?
‘Who is my neighbour?’ asked the scribe.
A safe enquiry, many have thought,
inviting abstract argument.
But Jesus told a sharp-edged tale
of injured Jews, uncaring priests,
and a super-caring alien.
He turned the conversation round,
And left two questions for us:
Who are those who need our help?
Who proves themselves their neighbour?
And in those questions, a knife:
To whom are you a neighbour?
