St John Baptist de la Salle
Daniel 13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62 or 13:41-62; Though I walk in the valley of darkness I fear no evil, for you are with me – Ps 22(23). John 8:12-20.
How much do we let Jesus light our lives?
Jesus’ claims about himself are bold and striking. It’s no wonder the Pharisees were incredulous. Sometimes we can lose sight of just how extraordinary Jesus’ claims about himself are. We domesticate Jesus, reduce him to something we can comprehend. As CS Lewis famously observed, Jesus is either who he says he is, or he is a madman. Jesus’ claim to be the ‘the light of the world’, to be coming from and returning to ‘my Father’, invites us to reflect on how much we let him light our lives, how much we allow him to guide us to the Father, to the God who formed us and seeks us to be at one with him. Jesus’ extraordinary claims about himself make a claim on us. How are you responding today?
