About Today Readings

Bl Peter To Rot

Genesis 28:10-22. In you, my God, I place my trust – Ps 90(91):1-4, 14-15. Matthew 9:18-26.

In God, I place my trust

Today’s Readings show the great blessing in experiencing God’s closeness. The Gospel bears witness to the effects of this closeness on those who, by their faith, are open to Jesus. The woman who has suffered from a haemorrhage for so long has such faith that if she can just touch Jesus’ coat, she will be healed. The official who bends low before him has such faith that he trusts Jesus’ touch in the face of such loss, asking that he ‘come and lay a hand’ on the daughter who has just died. In both cases, in all cases, Jesus’ touch brings healing.

If we are open to the presence of God, if we say with the refrain of today’s psalm, ‘In you, my God, I place my trust’, then maybe we will find ourselves pausing and saying like Jacob, ‘Truly, the Lord is in this place and I never knew it!’
