St Mary of the Cross (MacKillop)

1 Kings 17:8-16. My soul clings to you; your right hand holds me fast – Psalm 62(63):1-8. Colossians 3:12-17. Matthew 6:25-34.

Be clothed in love

St Paul in his letter to the Colossians anticipates by nearly 2000 years Australia’s first saint Mary of the Cross. Mary MacKillop had sincere compassion for the poor. Her dedication to their education was a practical way of ensuring that poverty could be overcome. She was kind and dealt with the humility the pain of defamatory claims, harassment by authorities and even, for a time, excommunication. Her motto was ‘never see a need without doing something about it’. I ask today that, like Mary MacKillop, the message of Christ finds a home with me. That in all that I am and do today, I do wisely and with gratitude. Mary MacKillop pray for us.
