Baptism of the Lord

Isaiah 55:1–11. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation – Isaiah 12:2–6. 1 John 5:1–9. Mark 1:7–11.

My favour rests on you

Baptism opens up new life in the way of the Lord. It is a sacrament of initiation, purification and of birth into the Catholic/Christian faith tradition. John the Baptist recognised Jesus as the one to come, the Messiah, who would liberate the Jews with his Kingdom of Peace. John understood that with the baptism by the Holy Spirit a whole new energy of divine love was being unleashed into history and into humanity. As we live out our baptismal promise and do the best we can to love God and love our neighbour, we can trust that God sees our efforts and is well pleased with us, his beloved children.
