The Lord is present in many places

The Word today invites us to ponder the presence of the Lord. At the time of Solomon, the focus of the presence was on the ark of the covenant, but even more precisely, the presence was seen to lie between the two cherubs on top of the ark. At the time of Jesus, the presence of the Lord was seen to be wherever the Lord walked. People flocked to touch the fringe of his garment. Many a tabernacle in our churches reflects the old ark of the covenant, and those tabernacles hold the sacramental presence of the Lord. But there are other presences of the Lord besides the Eucharistic species. Vatican II speaks of real presences in the Word, in the worshipping community, and in the person of the celebrant. Our sacramental imagination, with the help of the Holy Spirit, will find the presence of the Lord in many places.
