About Today Readings

1 Timothy 1:15-17. Blessed be the name of the Lord for ever – Psalm 112(113):1-7. Luke 6:43-49.

Whoever hears me builds his house on a rock

I struggle at times with my flawed nature. Why do I keep making the same mistakes? When will I ever have it all together? It gives me some comfort that St Paul had similar struggles. It is wonderful to see the ways in which God can use our flaws to build his Kingdom, if we will let him.

Today’s Gospel speaks of the wise and foolish builders. How easy it is to build our values, assumptions, and self-worth on sand instead of rock. We live in an age of comparison culture. I am constantly tempted to build my self-image on the shifting sands of other people’s Instagram posts. Why do I never measure up?

When I turn to prayer and scripture, I find the firm foundation. Help me, Lord, to always build on stone.
