About Today Readings

St Josaphat

3 John 5-8. Happy are those who fear the Lord – Psalm 111(112):1-6. Luke 18:1-18.

God listens

The unjust judge in Luke’s parable is mirrored in many people in our contemporary world whose decisions in positions of power are more about themselves than truly seeking justice. The widow is persistent and clear in her requests and never lets up. Jesus tells this parable in order to encourage us not to give up on prayer. We will not be answered as perfectly and with the alacrity that we require but we must persist. The persistence will help to form us in our true desires, it will help to refine what we truly understand to be our real needs. God listens and God delivers but not always how we hope to be answered.
