Pray for courage to follow Jesus

‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’ How much do we really believe that Jesus would choose to share a meal with those most ostracised and marginalised, welcome them into his fellowship, and invite them to follow him? And how do we respond to those who are marginalised in our society today? Those being ravaged by addictions that leave them friendless because of their hurtful behaviour, those who have been imprisoned? How are we being Jesus’ hands and feet and reaching out to offer healing and restoration to people we might not like or wish to associate with? We pray for courage to follow Jesus wherever he leads us, including to the unpopular and despised. We pray also for courage to see that we can sometimes despise parts of ourselves that we do not accept, and to let Jesus see this side of ourselves and bring healing to us too.
