Acts 1:15-17, 20-26. The Lord will give him a seat with the leaders of his people – Psalm 112(113):1-8. John 15:9-17.
You did not choose me: no, I chose you
As a young person, Lord, I was quite overcome with awe when I heard you saying these words to me. They gave a depth to my understanding of apostolate.
Now I realise your call was not only to me personally but to me in community with others – the community of the baptised. In choosing us you have called us into unity. I thank you, Jesus, for showing us what the heart of this unity should be: a love for one another that shows itself in a readiness to give our lives for each other in service. Then you may speak to the world through the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience that your Spirit of love bears in the human quality of our lives. Keep us true to your call.
