About Today Readings

1 Kings 19:19-21. Psalm 15(16):1-2, 5, 7-10. Matthew 5:33-37.

You are my inheritance, O Lord—Psalm 15(16):1-2, 5, 7-10.

‘Elisha left his oxen and ran after Elijah.’

The encounter with Jesus engages the whole person.

My mind, heart, hands and feet are all affected by the desire to say ‘Yes’ to Jesus. To attend to his presence in my life involves a ‘handing over’ of control.

The paradox is that I retain my agency, my ability to choose, to act, and also to respond.

As I become attentive to God’s Holy Spirit I experience a deepening of inner freedom.

This allows me to be moved in the same way that Jesus is moved, to walk his way in all aspects of my daily life, and to rest safe in the knowledge that he is always with me at all times and in all places.
