About Today Readings

Jeremiah 11:18-20. Lord, my God, I take shelter in you – Psalm 7:2-3, 9-12. John 7:40-52.

God is a just judge

Our world is grappling, and not particularly successfully, with the concept of justice. Is it justice when heinous acts of murder, rape and violence are met with death and destruction of other innocent lives? Is it justice when the unprovoked invasion of a country results in the racheting up of world arms production? Is it justice when desperate refugees are met with a dehumanising process stripped of all hope? Today’s readings are about judgments and justice. The Psalm tells us God is a just judge, slow to anger. In our prayers today we entreat God for justice for our world.
