Ask and you will receive
Jesus tells us to ask anything of the Father in Jesus’ name, and we shall receive it, so that our joy may be complete. Jesus is inviting us to trust God, to be vulnerable before God and to name our need, confident that God hears us and will respond. Sometimes, though, we don’t receive what we ask for. That can be a blessing in itself – sometimes our requests are more about us and less about God. And sometimes our requests can be answered in unexpected ways beyond our imagining. If God already knows our needs, then maybe placing our requests before God is more about helping us to become more self-aware of our desires and needs, and to seek an answer from the One who can most deeply meet those needs instead of looking elsewhere.
