Today’s feast honours saints whose lives exemplify fortitude

Ss Cornelius and Cyprian were influential figures in the early Christian Church. Cornelius, elected as the Pope during a time of persecution, exhibited great courage and faithfulness in leading the Church. He emphasised unity and reconciliation, valuing the importance of communion with the universal Church. Cyprian, the Bishop of Carthage, played a vital role in defending the Church’s teachings and guiding the faithful during turbulent times. Known for his writings on the sacraments, unity, and martyrdom, Cyprian emphasised the centrality of love and charity. Both saints ultimately suffered martyrdom for their unwavering commitment to Christ. Their lives exemplify fortitude, pastoral care and devotion to the Church, leaving a profound legacy that continues to inspire us today. May their example encourage us to be steadfast in our faith and to boldly proclaim the Gospel in our lives.
