Sat 18th. Hebrews 11:1-7. I will praise your name forever, Lord—Ps 144(145):2-5, 10-11. Mark 9:2-13.

Do we seek his presence with faith and devotion?

Today’s readings reassure us strongly that Jesus loves us and is present to us even as we question. The book of Hebrews was written in the context of persecution and has a strong call to faith. Some followers had begun questioning their faith and others were tempted to walk away from it. The examples of Old Testament biblical figures exhort those in doubt to hold to the faith. The gospel gives us an answer, a glimpse of the kingdom. We are inspired by being alone with Christ, away from worldly distractions. We too, as disciples of Christ, are called to be observers of his glory. Elijah and Moses came and they disappeared. They faded in the light. Jesus, however, remains.
