1 Timothy 6:13-16. Come with joy into the presence of the Lord – Psalm 99(100). Luke 8:4-15.
The parable of the sower
But as for that in the good soil, these are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance. Whenever I hear this Gospel passage, I wonder whether I’m the path, or the rocky ground, or the thorns, or the good soil. Sometimes it feels like I’m all of it – I hear God’s word, but it doesn’t always take root deep within, or I hear God’s word, but it gets choked out by life’s worries, riches and pleasures. But sometimes, God’s word bears fruit – not always immediately, not always externally visible, but in the darkness of the soil, it slowly germinates, slowly and patiently reaches for the nourishing light. The more it grows, the stronger the roots. And in time, the seed will bear fruit. God’s word is faithful and will accomplish God’s plan, no matter how long it may take.Email this Print This Page
