Today’s readings make me think about the difficult task that faces any of us when we’re placed in the role of teacher.
As the First Reading notes, the teacher has a great responsibility to pass on wisdom, but must also come to terms with their own limitations. None of us has perfect knowledge – we can only work to pass on what we know as best we can, and try to be guided by wisdom and love rather than malice and distrust.
Consider as a contrast the way of Jesus as a teacher, and the words of God in today’s Gospel, ‘Listen to him’. In Jesus we can trust in perfect knowledge, and know that the words we hear come from a deep love of us and the world.
We pray today that we might continue to look to Jesus to be our model as a teacher and guide.
