St Januarius
1 Corinthians 15:35-37, 42-49. I will walk in the presence of God, with the light of the living – Ps 55(56):10-14. Luke 8:4-15.
Trust in God can bear fruit
Today, as the Church celebrates the Feast of St Januarius, bishop of Naples, his witness offers an example of what it means to be a living soul for the Kingdom of God. Although little is known about this third-century saint, saints like him continue to show how to live as people who have received the seed of God’s Word in their hearts. Through their faith, perseverance and holiness, they inspire others to follow Christ and bear fruit for the Kingdom.
Some seeds failed to grow or were choked among thorns. Yet the lives of saints like Januarius encourage us to persevere when the path is difficult. Their example shows that trust in God can bear fruit even amid hardships and challenges.
What kind of soil are we providing for the seed of God’s Word, and how are our lives bearing fruit that brings hope, faith and life to others?
