About Today Readings

Romans 6:3-11. Psalm 117(118):1-2, 16-17, 22-23. Luke 24:1-12.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia – Psalm 117(118):1-2, 16-17, 22-23.

‘He is not here: he has been raised.’

Tonight, we hear Luke’s Gospel story of these three faithful women who came with spices to finish their loving task. It was they who first received news of his resurrection, and who then remembered how he had predicted it.

They hurried back to tell the amazing news to the 11 apostles and the disciples. The faithful women were carrying news of the Lord’s resurrection. But they were not believed, which must have been a disappointment.

Jesus wants us to be messengers of his resurrection to the world in which we live. Time does not fade the gift of Jesus’ rising from the dead; we can continue to draw love and strength from it.

Tonight, we renew our baptismal promises. Tonight, adults may be fully initiated through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. May we all be like the women who were the first to receive the good news. He is risen! Alleluia!
