About Today Readings

Acts 9:31-42. What return can I make to the Lord for all that he gives to me? – Psalm 115(116):12-17. John 6:60-69.

What return can I make to the Lord for all that he gives to me?

There is no way to be sufficiently grateful for the gifts we are given (Mary Oliver)

In the contemplation to attain love, from the fourth week of the spiritual exercises, I ask of the Lord an awareness of blessings, gratitude and trust, that I may love and serve him.

When I use this for morning prayer, I remember mentors, friends and special places. I remember watching the light change on Lake Michigan in Chicago. I think of seeing dawn break over the Ignatius statue garden at Loyola House, Guelph in Canada. I recall with joy spiritual directors, mentors and friends. From a depth of gratitude, I thank God for leading me to these people and for the gift they have been in my life. This gratitude builds up deep trust that God will continue to lead and guide me.
